Cook Time: 35–40 minutes

Servings: 3–4

Ingredients

For the Casserole

For the Streusel

For the Apple Topping

  • 2 Gala apples, peeled and diced

  • 2 tbsp butter

  • 2 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tsp A Spice Affair’s Apple Pie Spices

  • ⅓ cup + 2 tbsp water

  • 1 tsp corn starch

  • 1 ½ tsp vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 7.5” x 6” baking dish.

  2. Make the Streusel: In a small bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and apple pie seasoning. Dice the butter and cut it into the mixture with a fork or pastry cutter until crumbly. Refrigerate until ready to use.

  3. Prepare the Custard: In another bowl, whisk together heavy cream, eggs, vanilla extract, sugar, and apple pie seasoning.

  4. Assemble the Casserole: Place diced brioche bread into the greased dish. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the bread. Sprinkle with the streusel topping. Bake for 35–40 minutes, until golden and set in the middle.

  5. Cook the Apples: While the casserole bakes, heat a skillet over medium heat. Toss apples with lemon juice. Melt butter in the skillet, then add apples. Cook for 8–10 minutes until softened. Stir in sugar. Mix corn starch with 2 tbsp water to make a slurry, then add with ⅓ cup water. Cook until thickened, then stir in vanilla and apple pie seasoning.

  6. Serve: Once the casserole is baked, top with the warm apple mixture. Finish with maple syrup and powdered sugar if desired.
